Seeing talent blossom, sharing knowledge with children, offering young people a chance; the Fair Chance Foundation (FCF) enables all these things and more. Our volunteers do so much to help young people from disadvantaged backgrounds because they know how to apply their skills, knowledge and resources.
Founded on July 1, 2010, the Fair Chance Foundation is an independent organisation that channels the efforts of volunteers across the Netherlands into offering young people better chances in life. All of Deloitte’s charitable initiatives are grouped under the Foundation, which increases the strength and focus of its people.
The Foundation aligns knowledge, expertise and funding with the pressing need to provide better educational opportunities to children from underprivileged backgrounds. The social and economic stakes could not be higher.
Why education?
Every day, over 3.5 million people attend educational establishments in the Netherlands ranging from primary school level through to university and adult education. Yet for many young people between the ages of six and eighteen from disadvantaged families, a high quality educational experience is not always a certainty.
A disproportionate number of these young people drop out of secondary schools and go on to make decisions that impact their personal and professional lives. Unfortunately, many do not have the means or role models that could help them make other choices and head in a different direction.
It goes without saying that by investing in a child’s education, there is a greater possibility that he or she will go on to do greater things and they are more likely to find fulfilment in adult life. High quality education will determine the success of our future generations in the global labour market and will benefit every member of our society.
Our partners
A crucial enabler for this work has been the Foundation’s cooperation with a number of excellent and highly effective charitable partners. Their recognised and proven expertise in their respective fields has helped us direct our knowledge, time and funds in a targeted manner.
Their success at helping educate and developing the skills of young people, including entrepreneurial skills, ethics and financial literacy, is undeniable.
Growing together
The feedback we get from our volunteers is that they love what they’re doing; contributing selflessly to society in this way affects them profoundly because they learn things about themselves that they never knew existed. We have seen this same passion for knowledge and new insights, in our contact with students. It has been a privilege for the Foundation’s volunteers to have this experience, acquiring and exchanging knowledge.
It has been said that the Foundation is the heart of Deloitte. We agree with this view and warmly support the company’s ambition to use its expertise to offer better chances in life to everybody. In the following pages you will find more information about the charitable work the Foundation is involved in and how it is already enriching the lives of young students.
