The culture and spirit of volunteering is never stronger than on Impact Day when volunteers take a day off from their work to become involved in a range of community initiatives that are organised by the Foundation.

Impact Day is a worldwide Deloitte initiative, which has also become one of the Foundation’s core events. It is held annually and has steadily grown in size and reach. In 2010, around 400 volunteers shared their knowledge and helped develop the skills of more than 1,000 underprivileged children in a single day. On this occasion, the projects focused for example on job interview training, social skills training, and on learning how to manage money.

More than 35 projects took place simultaneously in cities across the Netherlands, providing an opportunity for volunteers to give back to society.

Here are some of the comments we received from our enthusiastic volunteers after they had spent the day helping young people:

‘Impact Day puts certain things in a different perspective’

“The children were enthusiastic and visibly enjoyed all the attention’

‘It felt good to be able to help children of the Schilderwijk, an underprivileged neighbourhood in The Hague’

‘Being able to contribute feels good’

‘A good initiative to disseminate knowledge to young people and bridge the gap between them and Deloitte’

This year, Impact Day will be held on September 28, 2011. For more information, or to get involved, please visit http://fairchancefoundation.nl/impactday/.
